Coming from a financially struggling background, she has faced numerous challenges throughout her life, yet continues to dream of becoming a successful businesswoman to support her family and improve their living conditions.

She belongs to a family of six, including her grandmother, mother, two brothers, sister-in-law, and herself. Among them, only her mother and one brother contribute financially. Her mother works as a farmer and tries her best to sustain the household, but their income is not enough to meet the family’s needs.

Growing up in a society where early marriage is often seen as a solution to financial hardship, Apshara also faced pressure from her family and community to get married and reduce the economic burden. However, she refused to let these expectations define her future. Her determination to continue her bachelor’s degree remained strong, even when circumstances were discouraging.

Her life took a difficult turn when she lost her father in Grade 10. Until then, he had been the main source of financial support for the family. After his passing, the family fell into a severe financial crisis. During this difficult period, the director of Bal Niketan stepped in to support her education and helped her continue her studies, giving her a chance to move forward.

Apshara often says, “I would never have considered continuing my education; instead, I might have ended up married and settled somewhere. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity I received to study and chase my dreams.”

With the support of the U-Go Scholarship, Apshara has been able to continue her higher education and move closer to her goals. • Roshani Khatun

    Roshani Khatun

Meet Roshani Khatun, the youngest daughter in a family of six from Gaighat, Udayapur, whose journey toward becoming a legal professional is shaped by resilience, sacrifice, and an unshaken belief in education.

Roshani grew up with three elder brothers, closely witnessing the daily struggles and sacrifices her parents made to sustain the family. Her mother dedicated her life to managing the household, while her father worked for many years as a driver. However, their stability changed when medical complications forced her father into early retirement, leaving the family in financial distress. Since then, the responsibility of earning has fallen on her middle brother, whose limited income is barely enough to cover basic needs. Despite these hardships, Roshani was raised with a strong belief from her parents that education is the only path to dignity, independence, and a better future.

Her academic journey began in a private school with low fees, which allowed her to complete her early education without placing heavy pressure on her family. She later pursued +2 in Law, a period that gradually shaped her interest in justice and social equality. Until then, her education was manageable despite financial struggles. However, everything changed in 2023 when she enrolled in the BA LLB program at Bright Vision Law College in Biratnagar.

Now in her second year, Roshani faces the harsh reality of higher education costs. The annual tuition fee of Rs. 120,000, along with rent and daily living expenses in a new city, has created a heavy financial burden on her family. Each semester comes with uncertainty about whether she will be able to continue her studies. In her community, it is often expected that a daughter’s education be compromised when financial pressure increases, and Roshani has also faced such suggestions. Despite this, her family continues to support her education with great courage and sacrifice, refusing to let her dream end.

Amid these challenges, she learned about the U-Go scholarship through her mentor, Mr. Najbul Khan from Muldhar Mahila Sewa Kendra, and applied with hope and determination.

For Roshani, studying law is not just about earning a degree—it is about becoming a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. She has seen how many women suffer injustice in silence due to a lack of legal awareness and access to justice. Even when rights exist on paper in the Constitution of Nepal, many women are unable to claim them due to lack of knowledge or support.

Her dream is to bridge this gap between the law and the women it is meant to protect. She hopes to ensure that justice is not limited to the privileged, but accessible to every woman, regardless of her background or financial condition.

With the support of the U-Go scholarship, Roshani aims to continue her BA LLB without interruption. This opportunity would ease her family’s financial burden and allow her to focus fully on her studies. More importantly, it would bring her closer to her goal of becoming a legal professional dedicated to justice, equality, and empowering the voiceless.

Anusha Kumari Magar, a young woman from Udayapur, carries a quiet but powerful dream to become a software developer. Now living in Lalitpur for her studies, she has been drawn to computers since childhood. For her, coding is not just a skill; it feels like solving meaningful puzzles, a way to create something valuable from nothing. This passion has given her both purpose and hope.

She comes from a humble family of four. Her father works as a farmer, but his income is not enough to sustain the household. Her mother, a tailor, shoulders most of the financial burden, working tirelessly to manage daily expenses and support Anusha’s education. Behind every opportunity Anusha has received is her mother’s hard work and sacrifice.

Anusha was born with a physical disability in her legs, which makes everyday tasks more difficult. Yet, in her home, she was never made to feel limited. Her parents consistently reminded her that her strength lies in her education and determination, not in her physical condition. Their words became her foundation, helping her push forward even when life felt uncertain.

Determined to give her a better future, her mother made the difficult decision to send her to a private school despite financial hardship. Anusha understood the sacrifices behind that choice, and she worked hard to honor it. With persistence and dedication, she successfully completed her Grade 12. However, the journey ahead now feels uncertain, as the cost of higher education is beyond what her family can afford.

In her community, there are still voices that question whether a girl with a disability should continue her studies. These doubts are painful, but they have not weakened her resolve. Instead, they have strengthened her belief that she must prove what is possible.

She learned about this scholarship while visiting Kathford International College of Engineering and Management, where a teacher encouraged her to apply. For Anusha, this opportunity represents more than financial support, it represents belief, dignity, and a chance to move forward without burdening her family further. She hopes to pursue a Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) and become the first graduate in her family. More than that, she wants to build a life where she can stand independently, support her parents, and show others that disability does not define a person’s future.

Anusha’s journey has not been easy, but her determination remains unwavering. With the right support, she is ready to turn her struggles into strength and her dreams into reality. Now, with the support of the U-Go scholarship, she is already living her dream of pursuing a Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA). • ASHMA THAPA

    ASHMA THAPA

Ashma Thapa’s story began even before she took her first breath. While her mother was five months pregnant, her father left the family simply because he wanted a son. Instead of joy, her birth was met with disappointment in her father’s absence. Yet, in that moment of rejection, her mother chose courage she chose to bring Ashma into the world and raise her against all odds.

Her mother’s life has been defined by struggle. At just 12 years old, she left for Kathmandu to work as a domestic helper in a Rana household, enduring long hours, little food, and no comfort. Even after marriage, hardship continued. Her husband became an alcoholic, sold her jewelry to feed his addiction, and eventually abandoned the family, leaving her alone with two daughters.

As a single mother, she faced constant judgment from society. People told her that a woman with two daughters had no value. But she refused to accept that narrative. For ten years, she worked relentlessly from dawn to late night, sacrificing her health and dreams just to ensure her daughters could survive and study.

Ashma, the younger daughter, grew up fully aware of these sacrifices. When she was sent to a hostel, she did not cry—she understood it was an act of love and necessity. Together with her sister, she spent ten years at Peace and Beautiful Children Welfare (PBCW) and studied at Toran Navajeevan Secondary School, where education became her only hope and her way of honoring her mother’s struggle.

She worked hard and became a disciplined, sincere student. Though she sometimes faced judgment as a “hostel child,” she turned that stigma into strength. During the COVID-19 period, financial hardship deepened, and after completing Grade 10, she began working to support herself. She funded her own Grade 11 and 12 education at Brilliant Multiple College, ensuring her mother would not carry that burden alone.

Her dream was to study Psychology and Social Work at Kathmandu Model College, but the cost of higher education made it feel out of reach. At that difficult moment, she learned about UGo Nepal. Applying for the scholarship became a turning point filled with hope.

When she was selected, it was not only her happiest moment but also her mother’s. For the first time, she saw relief replace exhaustion in her mother’s eyes.

Today, Ashma continues her studies with full determination, committed to making her mother proud and transforming her sacrifices into purpose. Her goal is to build a life where she can support her mother and become a voice for girls who come from broken homes, poverty, and silence.

UGo Nepal did not only support her education it restored her hope. And now, she carries one belief forward: being a “second daughter” is not a weakness, but her greatest strength.

Four years ago, she lost her mother—the strongest pillar of her life. Her death marked a painful turning point, turning education into a daily struggle for survival rather than just a goal.

Soon after, her father remarried and gradually disconnected from the family, leaving Anjali and her siblings emotionally and financially abandoned. She later learned about the UGO Scholarship through social media and applied despite documentation challenges. After receiving guidance from the organization, she was selected.

For Anjali, the scholarship is more than financial aid—it is hope, stability, and a chance to continue her education without giving up on her dreams.
