On May 27, 2025, UGO Nepal hosted a comprehensive one-day Life Skills and Leadership Training program for scholars based in Kathmandu, along with six scholars from Dhading. The event took place at Kathford International College of Engineering and Management in Lalitpur, bringing together motivated young individuals eager to enhance their personal and academic development.
The training was carefully designed to empower scholars with essential life skills and leadership qualities that are critical for their growth both inside and outside the classroom. The program covered a broad spectrum of themes, including leadership fundamentals, digital safety, legal awareness, emotional resilience, and social inclusion.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in interactive workshops and group activities that emphasized collaboration, effective communication, and decision-making. The experiential nature of the sessions encouraged scholars to actively participate, reflect on their own strengths and challenges, and practice leadership in real-time scenarios. This hands-on approach helped transform abstract concepts into tangible skills that scholars can apply in their daily lives.
One of the core goals of the training was to build confidence and a proactive mindset among the scholars. The sessions on leadership equipped participants with strategies to lead responsibly, work as part of a team, and develop empathy toward others. Scholars were encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones, embrace accountability, and recognize their potential as agents of positive change in their communities.
Another important aspect of the program was raising awareness about cyber safety and legal rights in the digital world. In an age where technology plays a central role, scholars were informed about common online risks and the importance of safe digital behavior. This knowledge is vital for protecting themselves and navigating the complexities of internet use responsibly.
The training also addressed the social and emotional challenges faced by youth today. Scholars were provided a safe and supportive space to openly discuss stress, fears, and other personal struggles. Guided reflection helped them develop coping mechanisms, resilience, and strategies for seeking help when needed.
A key highlight was the session on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI). Scholars explored the significance of equity and inclusion, understanding how embracing diversity strengthens communities. This session fostered critical thinking about biases and motivated scholars to advocate for inclusive practices in their environments.
To conclude the program, each participant engaged in personal development planning. This process encouraged scholars to reflect on their current position, set achievable goals, and identify the habits, resources, and support systems necessary to reach their aspirations.
The overall response from scholars was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed that the training was a valuable opportunity to gain new perspectives, practical skills, and motivation. Participants appreciated the interactive format and the chance to connect with peers who share similar ambitions and challenges. The event strengthened their self-confidence, broadened their understanding of leadership, and deepened their commitment to personal and community growth.
UGO Nepal’s Life Skills and Leadership Training proved to be a vital catalyst for empowering young scholars. By equipping them with the tools and mindset to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and purpose, the program contributes to building a generation of future leaders prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.
