Niruta's mother worked tirelessly, tending fields, raising cattle, and selling dairy products like milk and ghee. Despite her efforts, financial struggles loomed, and societal judgment weighed heavily on their shoulders, especially as a single mother with three daughters and no permanent job. Yet, her mother’s resilience was strong and did her best to provide a good life for Niruta and her sisters. Inspired by her mother’s strong resilience, Niruta and her sisters try their best to work hard for a better future.
Niruta attended a government school, balancing her education with helping her mother at home and in the fields. However, the family’s economic hardships and pressure from the society, forced her elder sister into an early marriage, a painful reality of their circumstances. Living in a small house with limited resources, there were times when they lacked even basic necessities. Regardless of their struggles, their mother emphasized the importance of education, believing it would lead to a brighter future.
Studying in a government school meant Niruta initially struggled with English, but her determination to excel never wavered. She worked hard and, eventually completing her college education, a milestone that once seemed like a distant dream due to her financial situation. She often worried about being a burden to her mother and wondered if she could ever afford to go to the university. Yet, those worries fueled her determination.

Sumitra Tharu
Sumitra Tharu, a resident of Baijanath-4, Banke, lives with her family of five: her grandfather, father, mother, brother, and herself. She completed her Plant Science studies at Laxmi Ma Vi-Bardahwa in Kohalpur, and is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Agriculture.
As an agriculture student, Sumitra often shared her knowledge with neighbors, helping them with farming issues. While they appreciated her support, she noticed that agriculture-related issues were just a small part of their struggles. Many in her community, especially women, were facing deeper problems, such as social violence and gender inequality. Despite their efforts to keep families happy, women were not receiving the respect and the love they deserved. This realization pushed Sumitra to think beyond agriculture and focus on addressing social issues.
Her dream is to tackle these challenges and empower women. She believes education is key to creating change and wants to inspire other girls to see it as a tool for a happy and meaningful life. However, pursuing higher education has not been easy for Sumitra. Her family, belonging to the Kamalari community, does not own any land and relies on her father’s income as a daily wage laborer and driver. While he has supported her education up to grade 12, rising living costs and limited resources has made it difficult for her to continue.
To help with household expenses and to cover basic needs, Sumitra started a small nursery using her agricultural knowledge. Despite her efforts, financial constraints and society’s belief on how women don’t need education, remained significant barriers in her life. Hearing harsh comments like "What will women do with education?" and knowing her family’s financial condition was weak, she even considered dropping her studies and to focus on earning money. However, Sumitra’s father always encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
A turning point came when Sumitra met Miss Sirjana Tharu at a social program. Sirjana, an active social worker, listened to her struggles and encouraged Sumitra to focus on her education, emphasizing its importance on creating lasting change. She then introduced Sumitra to U-Go Nepal. Inspired by this encounter, Sumitra applied for their scholarship program and was selected.
Sumitra’s immediate goal is to become independent, both financially and socially. She wants to inspire other women to pursue education and build their own enterprises. In the long term, she hopes to reduce violence against women, eliminate gender inequality, and empower women in her community.
With her family’s support and the help of U-Go Nepal’s scholarship, Sumitra is determined to achieve her dreams. She is committed to her studies, gaining practical experience in social work, and making a positive impact in her community. Sumitra is very thankful for the scholarship opportunity that brings her closer to her goal of becoming a dedicated social worker and a positive force of change in the community.

Kabita Danuwar
Kabita Danwar, a 22-year-old residing in Sukedhara, Kathmandu, is originally from the Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal. She is currently pursuing her third year of Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) at Brooklyn College, Sukedhara.
Her early life was marked by hardship. Kabita grew up in a family of four—her parents, an older brother, and herself. Her mother worked tirelessly as a daily wage laborer, while her father, a factory worker, struggled with alcoholism. Rather than contributing to the family expenses, her father spent his earnings on alcohol, often resorting to physical and emotional abuse.
While her mother worked to meet the needs, her father sometimes resorted to physically abusing Kabita’s mother just to buy more alcohol. Kabita’s mother endured the worst of his violence, and Kabita and her brother also suffered in the harsh environment. At times, they were left without basic necessities, even going hungry for a whole day which resulted in Kabita facing chronic gastric problems.
Her father’s behavior drove Kabita’s brother to leave home, while her mother, determined to give her daughter a better future, encouraged her to move to Kathmandu. Though moving to the capital city promised opportunities, it came with a lot of challenges. For her education, a maternal uncle suggested a college, which turned out to be more expensive than anticipated. Kabita soon discovered that his recommendation was selfish, as he was benefiting from a commission. Struggling to pay the fees, her mother had no choice but to take out a loan.
In Kathmandu, Kabita stayed with her grandparents and brother, but life was far from peaceful. Her brother, who was once a victim of their father’s violence, turned bitter, often berating her and calling her a burden. To escape his mistreatment and support herself, Kabita worked as a domestic worker and later in a local hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel environment exposed her to frequent sexual harassment, leaving her deeply traumatized and depressed. She even considered dropping her studies due to extreme sadness. Despite her despair, Kabita held onto her education as her only hope for a better future and a way to uplift her mother.
Support came in the form of a neighborhood woman who introduced her to the Chhori organization, which provides aid to women and children facing violence. Kabita has been staying in their emergency shelter for a year now, finding temporary relief and a sense of safety. Yet, her struggles continued as she faced pressure to secure long-term housing and employment.
The family’s financial struggles were added when her brother expressed a desire to go abroad for better job opportunities. With no savings, her mother took out yet another loan to support him. However, due to her brother’s carelessness, the money was lost, leaving the family deeper in debt.
Adding to her challenges, her father recently suffered a severe hand injury at work, requiring hospitalization. With no savings, her mother had to take out yet another loan to cover the medical expenses. Furthermore, because her father’s hands are injured, her mother has to provide him with alcohol even though she does not want to, as he cannot function without it and starts to tremble.
Despite everything she has suffered, Kabita remains set on her dream of becoming a banker. She hopes to achieve financial independence, clear her family’s debts, and stand against the violence faced by women and girls.
Kabita is grateful for the U-Go scholarship, which has given her a new sense of hope. She dreams of making her mother proud, breaking free from the cycle of hardship, and building a brighter future for herself and her family.

Sashikala Pasi
Sashikala Pasi’s story is one of determination and resilience. She comes from a middle- class family of eight, including her parents, an older brother, his wife and daughter, an older sister, and a younger brother. Her father works as a farmer on others’ fields, and her mother is a housewife. With her father’s income barely covering basic needs, there was no extra money for higher education.
From an early age, Sashikala dreamed of continuing her studies, believing it could create a better future for herself and her family. She completed grade 10 in a government school, where education was free. However, paying for grades 11 and 12 required her to take on responsibility for her own expenses.
To cover her college fees, she began teaching at a boarding school. She taught Nepali, Social Studies, and Science to students up to grade 4. Balancing her studies and her job was difficult—she studied in the mornings, worked in the afternoons, and returned home late in the evening. While her father tried to support her as much as he could, her brother was unsupportive, often making negative comments about her efforts. He doubted her ability to succeed, which added to her struggles.
Sashikala also faced criticism from others in her community. Some questioned why a girl should work or study, suggesting that her future would simply involve marriage and raising children. Diya proudly acknowledges her mother’s support as the foundation of her strength.
Her father, a hardworking farmer, also played a vital role in shaping her values and ambitions. Despite facing societal criticism for having three daughters, he never treated her daughters as burdens. Rojina Khatiwada
Rojina Khatiwada is from Gajuri, Dhading, where she lives with her husband and their three daughters. She is a strong and determined woman who has faced many challenges in life but has never given up on her dreams. Her biggest goal is to improve her family’s financial situation and show her daughters that education is the best way to build a better future.
Rojina’s early life was filled with struggles. She grew up in a family of seven with her parents and four siblings. Her father worked as a farmer and was the only earner in the family. Life took a tragic turn when her mother became very ill. The family spent all their savings and sold their jewelry for her treatment, but sadly, her mother passed away. This left the family in a very difficult financial situation. Since her father couldn’t afford to take care of all the children, Rojina got married at the age of 17.
After her marriage, Rojina and her husband moved to a different city to work and create a better life. Despite their challenges, Rojina dreamed of continuing her education. However, her in-laws did not support the idea of her studying, saying it would be a waste of money. Fortunately, her husband stood by her side and encouraged her. At the age of 19, she even joined a college to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
Unfortunately, another tragedy struck. While working at a hotel, a gas cylinder exploded, leaving Rojina injured and with burn scars on her body. At the time, her first daughter was very young, and the accident made her rethink her priorities. She decided to leave her studies and return to her hometown to focus on her family.
Even though life kept throwing challenges her way, Rojina never let go of her dreams. Her husband continued to support her, reminding her to never stop believing in herself. When a teacher from a nearby school told her about a scholarship opportunity, Rojina decided to apply. Receiving the scholarship brought her a new sense of hope. It allowed her to start pursuing a Bachelor’s in Education, with English as her major even at the age of 27.
Today, Rojina is balancing her studies and a teaching job at a local school. Her work helps support her family while also bringing her closer to her dream of becoming a teacher. Her three daughters are her biggest motivation, and she hopes to inspire them to value education and follow their dreams.
Over time, even her in-laws have come to support her efforts. They now help her with childcare, especially when she feels overwhelmed. Their change of heart shows how Rojina’s determination and hard work have earned their respect.
Rojina is deeply thankful to U-Go for believing in her and giving her the chance to change her life. She dreams of becoming a teacher, spreading knowledge, and making her family proud. Most of all, she wants to be a role model for her daughters and show them that with courage and perseverance, anything is possible.
Sudikshya Neupane
Sudikshya Neupane was born into a humble family in a small village. Her parents, who never had the chance to pursue formal education, have worked tirelessly, taking on jobs in other people’s homes and fields to support the family. Even though they own 5 to 6 kattha of land, it hasn’t been enough to sustain them. The income from selling their share of crops, combined with what they earn by working in others’ fields barely covers their basic needs.
Growing up, Sudikshya faced constant financial struggles, especially during her school years. Paying her school fees on time was often impossible, which meant missing out on extra classes and facing embarrassing remarks from teachers. In winter, when most students had warm school jackets, she had to make do with regular clothes, braving the cold because of her financial situation. Whenever she went to buy school supplies on credit, shopkeepers would remind her of unpaid debts, making her feel humiliated. These challenges made her worry constantly that she might have to leave school before even finishing class 12.
A ray of hope appeared when Sudikshya came across the U-Go scholarship on her school’s Facebook page. Her brother helped her apply, and this simple step became a turning point in her life. The scholarship eased her financial burden and gave her a renewed sense of hope and determination.
Sudikshya dreams of building her future in Nepal. While many people, regardless of their financial background, leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad, she believes in the potential of her homeland. She is determined to work hard and prove that meaningful opportunities can be created within Nepal. Even if she doesn’t secure a government job, she is ready to take on any work in her own country rather than leave for foreign shores.
For her, the scholarship isn’t just financial support—it’s a chance to break free from the cycle of poverty, avoid early marriage or migration, and continue her education. With this opportunity, Sudikshya hopes to complete her studies, lessen her family’s struggles, and contribute to her country in meaningful ways.

Krishna Jogi
Krishna Jogi, a first-year BBS student from Udayapur, currently resides in Triyuga Municipality. From a young age, Krishna has been deeply passionate about education and building a better future for herself and her family. Despite facing numerous challenges, she has remained determined to pursue her dreams.
Born into a financially struggling family of nine, Krishna grew up in a household where hardships were an everyday reality. Her father works as a laborer to support the family, while her mother suffers from high blood pressure, which requires ongoing medical attention. These financial burdens forced two of her sisters to discontinue their education. However, Krishna was committed to learn, and to improve her family’s circumstances.
Her educational journey began at a government school, where limited resources often meant she couldn't afford basic necessities such as stationery, books, or even food at times. Yet her dedication caught the attention of her teachers, who supported her financially and encouraged her to continue. Krishna completed her education till grade 12 with the support of scholarships and generous mentors.
The challenges she faced went beyond material scarcity. Her family endured neglect and discrimination from society due to their poverty, an experience that left emotional scars but also strengthened her resolve. When her mother’s health deteriorated, requiring treatment in Kathmandu, the family struggled to manage the expenses. Instead of receiving sympathy, Krishna often faced negative remarks from those around her. These experiences have fueled her determination to rise above them and earn the respect of the very society that once rejected her and her family. In addition to that, she is actively looking for a part-time job, to contribute to her family’s expenses.
Today, she is pursuing her bachelor's degree with the support of U Go Nepal’s scholarship. This opportunity is a pivotal moment in her journey, bringing her closer to her aspirations of uplifting her family and helping others in similar circumstances. Her ultimate dream is to become an educational officer, contributing to the improvement of Nepal’s education system and ensuring that others have the opportunities she fought so hard to secure.

Sujata Chaudhary
Sujata grew up in a middle-class joint family, where she shared a small home with eight family members: her grandparents, mother, uncle, aunt, and two younger sisters. Her grandparents used to work as farmers, and her mother and aunt managed the household. Her uncle used to work abroad as a security guard, and her two sisters are students in classes 11 and 6. Life changed drastically when her father, who used to work as a teacher and the family’s main breadwinner, passed away. His loss left the family struggling to cover basic expenses, including her and her sisters’ school fees.
Despite their best efforts to make ends meet, the family found it difficult to sustain their livelihood. They continued to live in their small village home, but Sujata temporarily moved to Nepalgunj to pursue her studies, paying rent to stay closer to educational opportunities. She had always dreamed of studying commerce and building a career in business, but the constant financial stress made her doubt if she could ever achieve it.
Social pressures only made things harder. Many of Sujata's friends came from wealthier families and spoke confidently about their futures—attending prestigious universities, studying abroad, or landing top internships. Listening to them made her feel out of place, as if such dreams were unreachable for someone in her situation.
One day, while exploring online forums for commerce students, she came across a story of someone who had overcome similar struggles through a scholarship. Inspired, she began researching scholarships herself, spending weeks poring over options until she found one specifically designed for students from low-income families interested in business and commerce.
Applying for the scholarship was nerve-wracking. She spent countless hours writing her essay, pouring her heart into sharing her background, passion for business, and dreams of one day starting her own company. When she finally submitted the application, a mix of relief and anxiety set in as she waited for the results.
When she found out she had been awarded the scholarship, it felt like a fresh start. For the first time in a long while, Sujata felt hope. The scholarship covered most of her tuition fees, easing the financial burden and allowing her to focus on her education.
Now, Sujata is determined to deepen her knowledge of business, finance, and economics. She dreams of building a strong foundation in these fields and eventually starting her own business, perhaps by expanding her family’s small store into something bigger and more sustainable.
More than anything, Sujata wants to make her family proud, especially her late father, whose hard work and sacrifices continue to inspire her. Thanks to the scholarship, she feels one step closer to achieving her dreams and creating a brighter future for her family.
